"Local" Drinks across the World
This month from Poland...

Krupnik is an ancient Polish liqueur which traces its roots back to the 1300's. A traditional sweet Vodka, Krupnik is based on grain spirit and honey. It consists of 40%-50% (80-100 proof) alcohol, honey and up to 50 different herbs.

The skillful combining of a century-old tradition with modern production methods has produced an excellent liqueur, best drunk warm in the winter, or on the rocks during the summer. It is either served hot or chilled.

Krupnik is made of natural wild bee's honey gathered in forests, and exotic spices. It has an outstanding honey-sweet taste and spicy bouquet with a strong, warming effect. The brand of the honey and ratio of seasonings are key points for the final taste of Krupnik.

Legend has it that the recipe was created by the Benedictine monks at a monastery. Krupnik was also used as a common medicinal disinfectant to Polish soldiers in World War II.

Outsmart the hangover

The intelligent way to do it is to drink a glass of water before and in between drinks, and pop a Vitamin C
tablet before you go to bed.
They also say pop a PartySmart half an hour before drinking.

Drunken Humor

A seaman meets a pirate in a bar, and talk turns to their adventures on the sea. The seaman notes that the pirate has a peg leg, a hook, and an eye patch. The seaman asks, "So, how did you end up with the peg leg?"

The pirate replies, "We were in a storm at sea, and I was swept overboard into a school of sharks. Just as my men were pulling me out, a shark bit my leg off."

"Wow!" said the seaman. "What about your hook?"

"Well," replied the pirate, "we were boarding an enemy ship and were battling the other sailors with swords. One of the enemy cut my hand off."

"Incredible!" remarked the seaman. "How did you get the eye-patch?"

"A seagull pooped in my eye," replied the pirate.

"You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?" the sailor asked incredulously.

"Well," said the pirate, "it was my first day with the hook!"

Trivia

Admiral Edward Russell's 17th-Century throwdown

Think you can drink like a sailor? Maybe you should take a moment to reflect on what that truly means.

The record for history's largest cocktail belongs to British Lord Admiral Edward Russell. In 1694, he threw an officer's party that employed a garden's fountain as the punch bowl.

The concoction? A mixture that included 250 gallons of brandy, 125 gallons of Malaga wine, 1,400 pounds of sugar, 2,500 lemons, 20 gallons of lime juice, and 5 pounds of nutmeg.

A series of bartenders actually paddled around in a small wooden canoe, filling up guests' cups. Not only that, but they had to work in 15-minute shifts to avoid being overcome by the fumes and falling overboard.

The party continued nonstop for a full week, pausing only briefly during rainstorms to erect a silk canopy over the punch to keep it from getting watered down. In fact, the festivities didn't end until the fountain had been drunk completely dry!
